A similar astonishing network can be found in sequoia forests in California. Its biggest tree, the “General Sherman,” stands eighty-three feet (275 meters) tall and is over thirty-six feet (eleven meters) in diameter at the base. This tree is estimated to be between 2,000 and 2,700 years old. The root of the sequoia trees typically grows around eleven to fourteen feet (two to five meters) deep (Monumental Trees, 2022).
